WELCOME

Lincoln is a medium size township 15km south east of Christchurch. It has a population of about 3000 permanent residents. This increases dramatically during weekdays as staff and students arrive to attend Lincoln University and the Crown Research Institutions. The brigade relies heavily on these institutions to allow employees to respond to emergency calls during work time. Without their support day time coverage of the Lincoln area would be severely compromised.

The Lincoln Volunteer Fire Brigade currently operate a frontline Fire Service 6/2 pump, a Fire Service 6/3 Pump Rescue Tender and a 12000lt water tanker built by SICON Ltd and supplied to the Brigade by the Selwyn District Council. We also operate a 4x4 Utility Support vehicle which was supplied with the assistance of the Lion Foundation.

Membership consists of an establishment of 28 Fire Fighters. Currently we operate with a Chief Fire Officer, Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Senior Station Officer, three Station Officers, seven Senior Firefighters and thirteen Firefighters.

The brigade responds to over 200 calls a year. Major risks in our area include the Lincoln University, which consists of a large number of high rise buildings, accommodation blocks and laboratories. The Crown Research Institutes, A High School, seven Primary Schools and a Maternity Hospital. We also assist our neighbouring Brigades at a number of prisons and industrial area.

As the population of the Lincoln district continues to grow the Brigade is finding itself becoming busier each year. Increased population also brings with it an increase in Motor Vehicle Accidents. The brigade is finding they are responding more to accidents and medical assistance calls. The pump rescue tender operated by the brigade carries the latest in rescue equipment. We currently operate Homaltro Rescue equipment including Spreaders, cutters, numerous rams, airbags and support equipment. We also carry extensive Medical equipment including Oxygen and a Heart Defiblirator.

Summer time in Canterbury can bring extremely dry conditions, which increases the fire risk.

We enjoy and work extremely well with our neighbouring Brigades of Rolleston, Leeston, Sockburn, Little River, Addington and Governors Bay.
