How this came about...
How did this idea come about?
One of our crew, Andy, made his first Firefighter Skytower Stair Climb in 2017 when he was a full time radio announcer. He dreamed up a radio promotion to get his listeners to give him jobs in exchange for a donation and aptly named it 'Handy Andy's Hire A Firey'.
It went very well with all sorts of jobs coming in such as helping farmers with silage piles, mowing lawns, fruit picking, wood chopping and even the local cinema putting on a movie and donating the proceeds.
In 2025, he reprised the idea with a slight adjustment to the name and talked his fellow firefighters (Harry, Ben, Ollie, Shaun E, Shaun B, Hayden, Josh and Jayne) into utilising it to fundraise amongst the Lincoln Community.
The reaction from the community has been outstanding so far and the crew see merit in making it an ongoing campaign for Skytower annually for the Leukaemia and Blood Cancer NZ cause.
